Curtis L. Michael was born and raised on the Sipekne’kati First Nation. He is married to Rose Michael (nee Nevin) and they have 9 children. Curtis teaches our Mi’kmaw Language at the L’nu Sipuk Kina’muo’kuom (LSK) School in Indian Brook, N.S. In the past, he has worked with Acadia University as a First Nations Liaison, Mi’kmaq Young Offenders Program, Teaching Assistant at Hants East Rural High and as a GED Math Tutor.
Curtis has created a flash-card Mi’kmaw Language game called “Mi’kmaw Made Easy” as well. He and his wife Rose had accompanied Prof. Anna Saroli from Acadia University to Peru and helped set up two sister schools; one near Machu Picchu and the other high in the Andes Mountains.
Curtis recently was the recipient of an Indspire Award: Guiding The Journey for his role in teaching his students Language, Culture and Traditions. He loves his language and strives to learn more on a daily basis.
